Here is the what my home built Five Fish Studios X12 Preamp sounds like.  This was an acoustic guitar ran through a Neumann U87 into my preamp.  Give it a listen and see what you think, this track is unedited, no effects were added to the track.  I would also like to thank Sound Images in Cincinnati, Ohio for letting me use their facilities to test this pre!

This is the Five Fish Studios X12 Preamp that I built a little while ago as a project for school.  You all should check it out, after using it you get a very beefy low end and a nice little crackle on the top end, it sounds like some old school API gear.  You can either have one built for you or you can do it yourself.  I built my own because I wanted to understand the workings of the electronics in Preamps and I learned a lot in the process.  If you are looking for a nice little 2 channel pre, look into this.  The guy who designs these also makes 500 series preamps for you API lunch box guys.  If you have any questions ask me and I will let you know more about my experience while building this pre.
